The annual Gold Star Standards of Excellence recognition program encourages and supports Maine’s institutions of higher education that are addressing smoking and tobacco use by creating and maintaining smoke and tobacco-free policies. Institutions of higher education are committed to providing as healthy and safe of an environment as possible for their students, faculty, staff and visitors. We applaud and want to recognize these efforts.
All institutions are encouraged to apply annually. Schools that meet a minimum of six of the ten standards will be recognized with an award during a celebration event. Those institutions who have received awards in past years are encouraged to reapply for continued recognition and ongoing commitment to addressing smoking and tobacco use on campus.
Program application announcement: January 2018
Applications due: February 28, 2018
Awards celebration: Thursday March 29, 2018, 11:00-1:00, Bangor Savings Bank, 5 Senator Way, Augusta
